Philomena Schraft, age 87, went to her Lord up in Heaven on Wednesday, September 27, 2017. She was born in Rome, New York on April 1, 1930 to Joseph and Rose Polce Macri. She was educated in Rome schools. Philomena worked various part-time jobs until marrying Mr. John Fiaschetti on August 27, 1949. Vincent Joseph Sonsini, 79, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 in the Rome Memorial Hospital He was born on February 13, 1938 in Rome, the son of Frank P. and Vera Prester Sonsini. On February 6, 1970 he married Marie Zullo, a blessed union of 47 years. He was a graduate of RFA, class of 1955. He was a proud member of the US Marine Corp. He was a machinist at Revere Copper & Brass, Inc. for 45 years retiring in February 2000. Vinny enjoyed golfing, fishing and doing carpentry work. He was a member of the Toccolana Club. John Castro, 81, of Rome, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017 in the Rome Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born on February 16, 1936 in Rome the son of Edmundo and Amalia Gadea Castro. On May 18, 1963, in St. John the Baptist Church, he married Josephine D. Vaccaro, a blessed union of 54 years. John was a graduate of RFA, class of 1953. He was a proud member of the US Navy from 1954-1958. He was a carpenter for New York State for 30 years until his retirement. Gertrude “Trudy” A. Vaccaro, 96, of Charlotte, NC and formerly of Rome, passed away on September 1, 2017 in Charlotte, NC. She was born on October 20, 1920 in Deer River, NY the daughter of Harry and Ruth Hancock Meister. On June 21, 1945 in St. Mary’s Church in Rome she married Victor R. Vaccaro, a blessed union of 58 years, who passed away on December 12, 2003. She was a graduate of Carthage High School and Utica School of Business. Trudy had worked as a secretary for Dr. Ernest Panasci and Dr. Robert Feeney. She enjoyed golfing, reading and bowling.
