John Castro
John Castro, 81, of Rome, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017 in the Rome Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side.
He was born on February 16, 1936 in Rome the son of Edmundo and Amalia Gadea Castro. On May 18, 1963, in St. John the Baptist Church, he married Josephine D. Vaccaro, a blessed union of 54 years.
John was a graduate of RFA, class of 1953. He was a proud member of the US Navy from 1954-1958. He was a carpenter for New York State for 30 years until his retirement. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening and watching baseball, especially the NY Yankees.
John is survived by his beloved family, his wife Josephine; three sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Van Castro of Queens, William Castro of Pittsfield, MA and Kevin and Amy Castro of Fayetteville; cherished grandchildren, Madeline, Anna, Kevin Michael, Jon Thomas and Megan Castro; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Armando and Connie Castro of Rome and Tito and Maryann Castro of Florida, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three sisters; Gloria Bello, America Newkirk and Amelia Semo and two brothers, Raul Castro and Edmundo Castro.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Wednesday at 12:00 noon in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant; where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
