Gertrude “Trudy” A. Vaccaro


Gertrude “Trudy” A. Vaccaro, 96, of Charlotte, NC and formerly of Rome, passed away on September 1, 2017 in Charlotte, NC.

She was born on October 20, 1920 in Deer River, NY the daughter of Harry and Ruth Hancock Meister. On June 21, 1945 in St. Mary’s Church in Rome she married Victor R. Vaccaro, a blessed union of 58 years, who passed away on December 12, 2003. She was a graduate of Carthage High School and Utica School of Business.

Trudy had worked as a secretary for Dr. Ernest Panasci and Dr. Robert Feeney. She enjoyed golfing, reading and bowling. She had been a member of the Rome Country Club and was a volunteer at the former Stonehedge Nursing Home. She had been a member of St. John the Baptist Church.

Trudy is survived by her beloved family, two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Jimmy Barnett of Charlotte, NC and Susan and Frederick Goux of Myrtle Beach, SC; cherished grandchildren, Jennifer and Andrew Gillette of Big Flats, NY, Jeffrey and Kelly Barnett of Charlotte, NC and Bryan and Jessica Goux of Mint Hill, NC; great grandchildren, Kelsey Rose Gillette, Nathan Andrew Gillette, Victor Daniel Barnett, Isabel Ann Barnett and Ella Rose Goux; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Al O’Neil; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Susan Meister; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Harold Wilkinson; sister-in-law Miriam Meister and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Louise Vaccaro.

Funeral services, under the direction of the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St., will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in Trudy’s memory to St. John the Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
