Mrs. Shirley J. Reali, 95, of Utica and formerly of Rome, passed away peacefully, Sunday, August 16, 2026, in Upstate University Medical Center, surrounded with love, following a brief illness.
She was born on October 27, 1930, in Utica, the daughter of the late Lloyd E. and Margaret Jones Schillinger and was educated in Utica schools. In 1947,Shirley married Charles Wiggins. She later married Angelo Consiglio whom she celebrated many years of marriage until his passing in April 1996. On November 3, 2001, Shirley married Rodolfo “Rudy” Reali whom passed away, December 7, 2021.
In 2000, Shirley retired from the Rome City School District where she was an asset in many areas. Early on in life, she worked for J.C. Penny for ten years. Shirley was a seventy-year member of the Zion Episcopal Church, Rome. She enjoyed playing Bocce at the Toccolana Club, where she was a member for many years.
Shirley is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Barry Fabrey of Utica; her children, Donald and Lois Wiggins of MI, Robert and Colleen Wiggins of Hornell, Richard and Cindy Wiggins of Rome, David and Lisa Wiggins of Utica, and JoAnn (Consiglio) and Robert Garafalo of Liverpool; several grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her step-children, Anthony “Tony” and Charlene Reali of Carthage, Judith Riolo of Rome, and Diane Munn of VA; along with all their families. Shirley was predeceased by her sons, Gary Wiggins and Thomas Wiggins and her daughter, Linda McElroy and her brother, Commander Donald Bagnall, USN, in 1977.
Shirley’s Funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Zion Episcopal Church, 140 W. Liberty Street, Rome. Committal service will be held 10 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2026 in the Crown Hill Memorial Park, Route 12, Clinton.
