Robert Neil Janes

Robert Neil Janes, 88, of Rome, NY, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, December 17, 2021 in St. Luke’s Hospital.

Robert, known as Bob, was born in Rome on November 24, 1933 to James and Angela Foley Janes. He was educated in Rome schools and attended Mohawk Valley Community College. Robert served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Josephine Stanizzi on June 11, 1960 at St. John the Baptist Church, a blessed union of 60 years. Josephine passed away on September 6, 2020.

Robert worked at Rome Cable Corporation as a supervisor for 45 years, retiring in 2000. He was an avid reader who loved history and National Geographic; a former bowler and a great cook. He enjoyed horse racing and his annual trips to Saratoga with his sons and grandsons. Robert loved to be with his family and he will be deeply missed by so many.

Robert is survived by his beloved family which includes his five children: Robert (Sheryl) Janes of Lee Center, Mary Frankowski of Rochester, Lisa (Vince) Barrentine of Wimauma, FL, Kevin Janes of Chattanooga, TN, and Patrick (Amanda) Janes of Camillus; 14 cherished grandchildren: Neil, Cayla, Garrett, Clare, Abigail, Cole, Elyse, Ethan, Phoenix, Brielle, Evan, Emma, Arianna, and Catherine who were so precious to him; a sister Phyllis Wogan of South Carolina, and a brother Donald Janes of Colorado; sisters-in-law Theresa Mecca, Rosemary Fragapane, Jeanette (Alan) Trombley and MaryLou (Ron) Symanski as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents James and Angela Janes, brothers William and James Janes, sister Patricia Plastis, sister and brother-in-law Carmella and Bernie Colangelo, and brothers-in-law Anthony Stanizzi, James Wogan, Joseph Mecca, and Anthony Fragapane.

Private funeral services will be celebrated on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo Street. Per Robert’s request, there will be no calling hours.
