Ray (Sox) W. Bouton, 83, of Rome passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 from Multiple Myeloma.
Ray was born and adopted on August 8, 1941 to Ray and Ruby Rich Bouton. Ray was a 1959 RFA grad uate and went into the US Navy on August 2, 1961 and was honorably discharged as an E5 Radar Man on July 19, 1965. He went on to get his airline mechanic license working for various airlines throughout his career, retiring from American Airlines. Ray also proudly worked many years as a salesman for his wife’s family business, Romohawk Tobacco. Ray was a longstanding member of the American Legion.
On April 20, 1968, Ray married Sharyn Maracchion and together they had two sons and seven grandchildren who were truly the apple of his eye. Ray was an avid Buffalo Bills fan who longed to see his team make the Super Bowl again, but he still loved nothing more than to spend time with his family and watch his grandkids play sports.
Ray is survived by his wife Sharyn and two sons, Ray Christopher (Jessie) and Aaron (Amanda), and seven grandchildren - Sophia, Cruz, Gianna, Tino, Maximo, Lola, and Lorenzo, as well as his brother –in-law, Ross (Marylou) Maracchion. Ray also leaves behind special friends, Jerry Dite and Bill Fleet, who he looked forward to Tuesday morning coffees with each week. Ray was predeceased by his parents, his mother-in-law Adelaide Garcia Maracchion, and two dear friends Donald Coccia and Walter Stemkowski.
Ray and his family would like to thank Dr. Alicia DeTraglia MD, Stacey Jaskolka NP, Dr. Anthony Cotronea MD, and the Oneida County Hospice for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Ray’s honor to either Donate For Life on their website, donatelifenys.org or by mailing a check to Donate Life New York State, 185 Jordan Road, Troy, NY 12180, or to the Rome Youth Hockey Association by mailing a check to RYHA, PO Box 861, Rome, NY 13442.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 11am at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St, Rome with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Calling hours will be held from 10am - 11am prior to the mass.

Growing up Delta Terrace provided us all a haven of great values a Blessing that truly was! Ray was always smiling and that was infectious! His sense of humor and his dedication to family and friends left a positive impression on us all!
