Paula Ann Palombi
Paula Ann Palombi, 84, of Rome, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2026, at home with her dog, Cole, at her side.
She was born June 18, 1942, in Rome, daughter of the late Felix C. and Mafalda (Marucci) Palombi, and sister of the late John Palombi. She was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and went on to earn her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from SUNY Oneonta. After teaching for a number of years, including two in the Camden Central Schools, Paula ran a small business in Rome, before her tenure at DFAS, from where she retired in 2009.
A proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Paula enjoyed baking Christmas cookies for family holidays. She also loved to knit and crochet beautiful blankets and articles of clothing for everyone. A lover of all animals, Paula rescued many small dogs during her life, giving them each a home filled with love and affection. She was an avid fan of classic movies and had an encyclopedic memory of actors and scenes from her favorite films.
Paula is survived by her sons Scott Ginsburg (wife Augusta) of Andover, MA and Matthew Ginsburg (wife Doreen) of Manhattan, her granddaughters Rebecca Berman (husband Jason) and Emma Wahoski (husband John), great-grandchildren Jack, Kira and Jacob, many cousins, nieces and nephews and her aunt Aggie (Marucci) DeBella.
Her family is deeply grateful to Nick DeFazio for the loving friendship he provided to Paula and her dogs over many years.
Funeral mass for Paula will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at St. Peter’s Church, 200 N. James Street, Rome. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest in the family plot.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Paula’s memory may be offered to Helping Hounds Dog Rescue of Syracuse, NY.
