Michael (Mike) Wehnke, 70, of Pompano Beach Florida, formerly of Rome, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the Trustbridge Hospice Center in Pompano Beach, Florida, with his loving family by his side, after a yearlong battle with cancer.  Mike was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support to all who knew him.

Mike loved to watch sports and was one of the loudest spectators at his sons’ and grandchildren’s sports events.  He loved the NY Giants and Yankees. His best buddies were the family dogs, Jasper, Oliver, and Napolean; however, Jeter held a special place in his heart. He loved to take his sons and grandson, Aaron, on chartered fishing trips. However, his true passion was cooking with his granddaughter, Alysha who was always by his side. Mike treated every meal he made as a celebrated event. Sunday dinners and holidays were his specialty.

Mike was born on May 17, 1955, in Weehawken, New Jersey, the son of Frances (DellaBella) and William Wehnke. He was a graduate of Rome Catholic High School the Class of 1974.

On October 12, 1974, Mike married his high school sweetheart, Roxanne (DeSalvo) Wehnke, a blessed union that lasted fifty-one years. He is survived by his beloved wife, Roxanne; his two sons, Michael and Jeremy (Indira) Wehnke. Mike’s greatest pride was his two grandchildren, Aaron and Alysha Wehnke.

He is survived by his three brothers, Keith, Victor, and Ross Wehnke. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Michelle and Timothy Johnson. Mike thought of Michelle as his sister and appreciated the many acts of kindness she provided Mike, especially in his final month of his life. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Lana Schuler Wehnke, daughter-in-law Amy Wehnke, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents and his in-laws, James and Lucy DeSalvo, who he loved dearly and were very special to him. The family would like to thank Trustbridge Hospice Center for his care during his final days.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Mass will take place in Rome, NY.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo Street, Rome.  You may view the obituary and send online condolences at:  www.bottinifuneralhome.com
