Martin “Marty” J. Blevins Jr., 58, lifelong resident of Rome, passed away peacefully, May 19, 2026, at his home, with surrounded by the love of his family, after a courageous battle with several cancers.
He was born in Rome, the son of the late Arlene Peck Witzigman and the late Martin J. Blevins, Sr. and attended Rome schools. Marty married the former Michelle Greene in Rome. He served in the United State Army. Prior to his illness, he enjoyed working at LaRoma Pizzeria and Restaurant, Rome.
Marty was a truly remarkable man whose strength, kindness, and love for his family defined his life. He served his country honorably, carrying the same courage and selflessness into every aspect of his life. He was the kind of man who would do anything for the people he loved, always putting family first and offering support, wisdom, and unconditional love to those around him.
Above all else, Marty cherished his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Michelle, who stood faithfully by his side through every step of his journey; his loving daughter, Ariana Blevins and her fiancée, Evgeny Pulver of Rome; and his sons, Austin Greene of Ogdensburg and Martin J. Blevins, III and his fiancé, Raven Azzef of Rome, all of whom were the pride and joy of his life, and his grandson, Martin J. Blevins, IV of Rome. He also leaves behind his dear sister and brother-in-law, Tammy Blevins of Rome; his brothers, Charles Murphy of Alaska and Lance Witzigman of Camden; his nieces, Sherry and Bret Pritchard of Lee Center and Victoria Spoon of Rome; his nephews, Daniel and Kourtney Bush of Taberg, Matthew Bush of Taberg, David and Ash Spoon of Virginia, and Brandon Bush of Rome; his great nephew, Kylo Spoon of Virginia, his uncle and aunt, Ray and Dawn Peck and their children, Ray Peck Jr, and Megan Peck, his father-in-law, Melvin Greene; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Holly and Donald Kent; his brothers-in-law, Charles Greene and Steven Greene, along with many extended family members and friends who will forever treasure the memories they shared with him. He was predeceased by his parents, his mother-in-law, Suzanne Greene.
Life Celebration for Marty, will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, 1-3 p.m. at the Henry P. Smith Post #24 of the American Legion, 325 Erie Blvd, W., Rome. Inurnment will be made privately at the convenience of the family.
Throughout his illness, Martin faced each day with incredible bravery and determination. His family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and caregivers who provided compassionate care and comfort during his difficult journey. A very special thank you is also given to his devoted home aides, Emily and Brianna, whose kindness, patience, and support brought comfort not only to Marty but to his entire family during his time of need.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo Street, Rome.
