Lucy DeMatteo

Lucy DeMatteo, 95, of Rome passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the home of her daughter with her family by her side.

   Lucy was born in Carpino, Italy on February 20, 1930, daughter of Matteo DeCosmo and Maria Antonia D’Addetta.  She attended Rome schools and was a graduate of Rome Free Academy.  She worked for 27 years in the Rome City School District.  On May 31, 1951 she married Joseph DeMatteo, a blessed union of 62 years until his passing in 2013.

   Lucy is survived by her daughter Mary Theresa DeMatteo-Vitale and her husband Antonio of Liverpool; her sons and daughters-in-law Joseph and Teodora DeMatteo of Bridgeport, David DeMatteo of Sarasota FL, and Gary and Mary DeMatteo of Rome; eight grandchildren Michael and Sharline DeMatteo, Tara and Michael Karas; Jessica and Martin Ciaccia, Matthew and Jennifer DeMatteo, Lucia and Luis Quinones, Cristina (Matt DiDone), Joseph DeMatteo (Krisa Apgar), Nicholas DeMatteo (Gabriella Mannsbart); as well as six great-grandchildren Sophia, Brayden, Micah, Aurora, Luca, and Liam.  She is also survived by nieces Chris and Rick Sprague, Shelly and Joel Gray, and Patricia and John Spinelli; sisters-in-law Sandra Bovi, Mary Alice DeMatteo, and Jacqueline DeMatteo.  Lucy is predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brothers Santo DiCosmo, and Adolf DiCosmo; and her sister Teresa Vacca.

   Funeral services will be private and there will be no calling hours. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica.
