Loretta K. Bernstein Einstein

Loretta K. Bernstein Einstein, 87, of New Hartford, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2023, at the St. Luke’s Campus of MVHS, surrounded by her loved ones.


Loretta was born April 15, 1936, in Utica, the daughter of George and Dorothy Liebowitz

Bernstein. She graduated from Utica Free Academy. Loretta and Robert were married at Temple Beth El, Utica in 1954. A blessed union which lasted sixty-four years until Robert’s passing on September 27, 2018.


She was a longstanding member of Temple Beth El. Loretta served as the Republican Voting Poll Chairperson in Oneida County for several years. Loretta was the glue of her entire extended family. She was the one person that could be called in a time of both joy and sorrow for support and understanding. Loretta and Robert were entrepreneurs, known for their quality wooden banks, clocks, and novelties. Their business was known as “U Can Bank On It” which entered many craft shows and fairs.


Loretta is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Debi and Jim O’Connell, III, of Troy, Sue

and Donald Hahn, Jr. of Whitesboro, and Sheri and Tom Pietruch, Jr., of Whitesboro; her grandchildren, Devorai O’Connell, Bryan Hahn, Nicole and Robert Hahn Miller, Leanne Hahn,

Andrea and Aaron Gillette and Kelly Pietruch and fiancé, Jamie Kramer; her great grandchildren,

Bryanna Hahn, Maverick Miller, Charlotte Miller, Lily Gillette and Lucy Gillette and several

nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Sarah

Comins, Jessica Cynkus, Louis Bernstein, Paul Bernstein, and Lawrence Bernstein


Mrs. Einstein’s funeral will commence 1 p.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the RCIL Community Center (former Temple Beth El sanctuary), 1607 Genesee Street, Utica, with Rabbi Gustavo Gierer, officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Beth El Cemetery, Wood Road, Whitesboro, where she will be laid to rest next to Robert.


The family will receive family and friends from 12 p.m., Tuesday, at the Center, prior the time of the service. Memorial donations, in Loretta’s memory, may be offered to St. Jude’s Children’s

Hospital, American Heart Association or Anita’s Stevens Swan Society.


Loretta’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Amy Gorczynski , her staff and the entire staff of St. Luke’s MVHS for their compassionate care


The Einstein’s care is under the faith of Scott J. Pizer, Funeral Director with Bottini Funeral Home, 120 Embargo Street, Rome.
