Josephine Vinci Nelson


1930-2024

Josephine Vinci Nelson,93, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Rome Health. Born September 21, 1930, she was one of ten children and an important part of Rome’s famed Vinci’s Restaurant.

   Josephine was the mother of six children. She worked for New York State for ten years. She retired after twenty years in housekeeping at Rome Memorial Hospital.  Josephine retired at the age of 87.

Raising her children as a single mother was her priority for many years and as they became independent, she sought employment to keep her own independence and privacy. Josephine was known for her fierce independence and unwillingness to accept a ride when walking, declining with a wave of the hand. She was loved by an incredible amount of people because of her kindness and willingness to listen.

Josephine is survived by her children Grace (Pep) Pepperman, Ken (Junior) and Beth Nelson, Elizabeth (Ron) Marullo, Carol Henry, and Joyce (Ricky) Scerra. She is also survived by her sister Paula Cianfrocco and brother Henry (Bozo) Vinci. Josephine is also survived by eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was predeceased by her daughter Anatolia (Toya) White.

     Josephine’s family would like to thank the third floor of Rome Health for their care of Josephine. Their kindness and love for Josephine was far beyond their professional duties.

     Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 4pm -6pm at Bottini Funeral Home 120 W. Embargo St. There will be a prayer service at 6pm at the Funeral Home led by Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio of St. John the Baptist Church. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
