Josephine Darcangelo

Josephine Darcangelo, 87, of Rome, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023 with her loving family by her side.

Josephine was born on June 14, 1935, the daughter of Anthony and Valentina Filippini DeMatteo. She attended Rome City Schools and worked as a secretary for Griffiss Air Force Base and later for the Rome School System. On October 15, 1955, Josephine married Albert “Butch” Darcangelo, a blessed union of 64 years until Albert’s passing in 2019. Josephine enjoyed cooking and baking. She was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church.

Josephine is survived by her children and their spouses MaryJo and Jonathan Sears of Rome, Albert Darcangelo and John Moran of Portland OR, Paul Darcangelo of Rome, Donald and Kristen Darcangelo of Rome, Dominick Darcangelo of Delray Beach FL, David and Diana Darcangelo of Miami FL, and daughter-in-law Shelly Darcangelo of Rome; her cherished grandchildren Anthony and Stephanie Darcangelo, Nicholas Darcangelo, Gabriella and Brandon McKay, Olivia Darcangelo, Alexa Darcangelo, Evan Sears, Marc Darcangelo, Gabby Darcangelo, Don Darcangelo, David R. Darcangelo and Daniella Darcangelo; great-grandchildren Sophia Corinn Darcangelo, twins Liam and Hunter McKay, and Anthony Joseph Darcangelo, sister Sandra Bovi, beloved sisters in-laws Lucy, Mary Alice and Jacqueline DeMatteo, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Albert, her son Anthony E. Darcangelo, and her brothers Joseph, Edward and Louis DeMatteo.

The Darcangelo family would like to extend a special thank you to her sister Sandra for her attentive love and care. The family also extends gratitude to the second and third floor staff at Rome Health and all of her in-home personal care givers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 6:00 pm at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St. with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Calling hours will be from 4 – 6 pm at the Church. Private interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
