Joan Mistretta Campanaro

Joan Mistretta Campanaro, 85, of Rome and Arizona passed away at home on August 16, 2021 with her loving family by her side.

She was born on October 4, 1935 in Rome the daughter of Rose Vernenti Mistretta. On April 21, 1956 she was married to Herman T. Campanaro in St. John the Baptist Church, a blessed union of 65 years.

She graduated from RFA class of 1953 and the Utica School of Commerce. Joan worked at GAFB Accounting and Finance. She was the owner of Joanie's Fashion Alley. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Rome.

Joan is survived by her beloved family, her husband Herm, who took wonderful loving care of her for the last several years, Linda (Robert Jr.) Bonanza, Elaine (Daniel) Falatico and Vince Campanaro,AZ; cherished grandchildren, Jason (Suzanne) Bonanza, Santino (Amanda) Bonanza, Salvatore Bonanza, Vincent Bonanza, Anthony (Katie) Lopiccolo, Gianni Falatico and Daniel Falatico; a sister Monica Johnson of AZ; in-laws, Freida Campanaro and Robert and Phyllis Campanaro. She was predeceased by her mother Rose, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Herman “Tom” and Jennie Tallarino Campanaro, Michael Campanaro and Joseph Johnson.

Joanie was a true friend to all and a wonderful loving mother and wife who enjoyed making holidays extra special by carrying on family traditions. She loved teaching her daughters how to cook, bake, and make a house a home. She had great style, was an exceptional dresser and loved her jewelry. She loved to entertain and always made sure to have dinner as a family and set the table just right; always adding little special touches to make dinnertime a family event. She always worked hard and made sure her family had everything they needed. Joanie was a mother and a wife whom anyone would be blessed to have. She will be greatly missed and loved forever.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant.

Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 from 12-1:00 p.m. prior to the Mass. Interment will be held at a later date in St. John’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joan’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959. Envelopes available at the church.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
