Jeffrey Stowell, 80, lifelong resident of Utica, passed away peacefully, at his home following an illness.

He was born on August 22, 1945 in Utica, to the late Louis and Faye Philipson Stowell and attended Utica schools.

Jeff was a good-hearted, fun-loving man. When he was younger, he loved playing tennis at Parkway Courts and riding his bike all over the city.  Jeff was a volunteer for over twenty-five years at the Charles T. Sitrin Health Care Center, New Hartford and as Jeff’s cousin, Dr. Jules Klein, discovered on one of his visits from Florida, Jeff loved going to the casino. He was always a winner, which is why. Jeff was a member of Congregation Zvi Jacob, where his father devotedly brought his son to services regularly till his passing.

Since the passing of Jeff’s father in March of 1999, he has resided with the Utica DDSO and most recently at York Street house. Jeff came into his own in this unfamiliar environment where he was well cared for, treated with respect, and given a meaningful job. One of the highlights of Jeff’s new life was earning his own money for the first time. After several years, Jeff chose to take an early retirement.

Jeff is survived and will be sorely missed by his cousins, Dr. Albert Cohen and his family of Florida, and by his many friends who cared for him, and he has met throughout his life. He is predeceased by his parents, his aunt and uncle Betty and Nathan Klein, his cousin Dr. Jules Klein, and his cousin Rosalie Cohen, who thought of Jeff as another brother, not just a cousin.

Jeff’s funeral and graveside service will be private. He will be laid to rest next to his parents in House of Jacob Cemetery, Whitesboro. Contributions in Jeff’s memory can be offered to the Utica Rome Chapter of DDSO- ARC.

Many thanks to those who cared enough to visit, call, and treat Jeff with kindness and respect.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Scott J. Pizer, Jacobson-Pizer Funeral Chapel. 315-797-9121.
