Helen A. Wilson
Helen A. Wilson, age 71, Rome, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Rome Health.
Helen was born in Oneida February 23, 1951, a daughter of Adam A. and Oretta Thompson Skachenko. She graduated from VVS, Class of 1969, and attended BOCES School of Nursing and Utica School of Commerce.
In an effort to provide for her children, Helen worked in many places: Vernon Downs, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Betsy Ross Nursing Home, Stonehedge Nursing Home, Turning Stone Casino, Oneida Hospital, Rose Hospital and St. Luke’s. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Rome Women’s Softball League, the Polish Home and the Girl Scouts. She was step-mom to three children, Nana Helen to her step-grandchildren, and Aunt Helen to the Haney children.
Surviving are a daughter Alexandria A. Pelano; sons Adam (Lisa) Smith of Jacksonville NC, John Smith of Eustis FL, and Jeff (Andrea) Havener of Sumter SC; grandchildren Amanda H., Brittany H., Kyle Pelano, Caleb Smith, Natasha Smith, Katrina (Bryan) Antolin, Payne Smith, Owen Smith, Tristen H., and Elaura H.; 2 great-grandchildren and her loving dog Moose. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Emily Jean Cleary, and her son-in-law Charles R. Pelano.
Funeral services will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, New Hartford. There are no calling hours.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo Street.
