Gary A. Maples, 73, of Rome and formerly of Florida, peacefully passed away March 18, 2026, in the Wynn Hospital of the MVHS, with his loving family by his side.
He was born on December 26, 1952, the son of the late Mary Alonge Maples, and was educated in Rome schools. Gary found love in Florida, marrying the former Loretta Parte and settling in St. Cloud, where he owned and operated Maples' Moving Company for several years. Following the passing of Loretta on April 14, 2018, Gary returned to Rome to be closer to his family.
Gary was an avid bowler and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. He was the kind of person everyone gravitated toward — warm, genuine, and easy to be around. His greatest passion was his grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them and never missing a chance to share a proud story about each of them. He had a deep love for music, possessing an impressive knowledge of songs, artists, and bands that could surprise anyone who brought up the topic. He was also known for his late night and early morning talks with his sisters, the kind of conversations that could only happen between people who truly knew and loved each other.
He is survived by his son Gary D. Maples and his partner, Julia Carzo of Marcy; his beloved grandchildren, Jayce Maples and Luke Maples of Marcy; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Paul Lopus of Florida, Diane Winterbottom of Rome, and Valerie and Michael Lauri of Rome; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and the many friends he made throughout his life, personally and professionally. Gary is predeceased by his daughter, Kimberly Maples on July 9, 2024, his brothers Mark Maples and Rodney Maples, and his brother-in-law Matt Winterbottom.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Henry P. Smith American Legion, Post #24, 325 Erie Blvd W., Rome.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo Street, Rome.

Godspeed Gary…. The memories of our younger days hanging out at the park, listening to some music Struming on the guitars is something that will always warm my heart. You are a gentle soul may you rest in peace, my childhood friend.
I Will Miss You So Much...You Were A Wonderful Man
