Doris Summa
Doris Sherman Summa, 92, of Rome, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020 in the Rome Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 10, 1928 in Rome a daughter of Henry and Mary Scolapio Barone. She was married on February 29, 1954 to Francis Sherman who passed away on August 25, 1998. She later married Leonard Summa on October 20, 2007. He passed away on August 4, 2018.
Doris was a graduate of RFA. While in school she worked at JC Penny were she met her husband Francis. She was a dental assistant for Dr. Ross Vella. She worked until her retirement for Dr. Joel Amidon, Sr. as a Medical Assistant. She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Church. Doris enjoyed camping, square dancing and golfing. She once was a member of the Teugega Country Club.
Doris is survived by her beloved family, a son Joseph (Mary) Sherman, Sr. of Buffalo; cherished grandchildren, Maria Ann Sherman and Joseph (Alicia) Sherman Jr.; great-grandchildren, Abigail Sherman and Joseph Sherman III. sisters, Nina Hyde, Jean Ceci and Barbara Vota and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers-in-law, Robert J. Hyde, Richard Vota and Vincent Ceci.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Private interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St. Masks are required in church during Mass and the funeral home during calling hours.
Contributions may be made in Doris’s memory to St. John’s Endowment Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
