Doris A. Badolato, 89, of Rome passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at home. She was born in Schenectady on September 18, 1936, the daughter of Rose and Henry Wiethake. Doris graduated from Scotia-Glenville High School, Scotia. After high school, she worked as a secretary for the Scotia-Glenville School District. On August 3, 1957 she married Francis Badolato at St. Joseph's Church, Scotia. After she married, Doris worked for the Rome City School District Board of Education office for department heads for athletics, music and art. Later in her career, she worked as the secretary of Staley Junior High School until her retirement, where she was once described as the "Octopus of Efficiency.” She was much adored by faculty, staff and students.
Doris was actively involved and volunteered for the Marian Guild, East Rome Memories Group, Rome Twigs, Dollars for Scholars, the Rome Community Theater and the Rome Sports Hall of Fame. She was passionate about her involvement in all of the volunteer organizations. In her spare time Doris enjoyed cooking, crafting, perennial gardening and attending many athletic, theater and artistic events for her grandchildren, near and far. Doris was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband Francis “Doc” Badolato of 68 blessed years; three daughters: Elaine and Andrew Arthur, West Simsbury CT, Sheryl and Robert Janes, Lee Center and Donna Badolato, Lee Center. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Steven(Jade) Eakins, Kyle(Lianne) Eakins, Ryan Arthur, Neil Janes, Garrett(Clare) Janes, Abigail Janes and her fiance, Joshua Geller, Catherine and Caroline Rood and great grandchildren, Remington Eakins, Finley Eakins, Rory Eakins, Mari Janes, Knox Eakins, Mercer Eakins and Callan Janes.
Doris also leaves behind her siblings, Rose Stote, her identical twin of Grove City PA; Betty Lou Scanlan, Tampa FL and Henry and Mary Wiethake, Silverthorne CO, with many nieces and nephews whom she always made feel special.
Doris was predeceased by her parents, Rose and Henry Wiethake, her in laws Mary and Dominick Badolato, Brothers in Law John Scanlan, Jack Stote, Samuel(Catherine) Badolato, Dominick(Angela) Badolato, Bernard Badolato and niece Maria Peters.
The family would like to express a special thank you to her constant angel caregivers Emily, Bridget, Lucy, Carol and Shannon; Marcia Kotary of Independence Care and to the Hospice Staff for their neverending support and loving care.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St. Calling hours 10-11am prior to the Mass. The family will greet visitors after the Mass. Burial St. John’s Cemetery, Rome. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo Street.
