Donald R. Pettinelli, 83, of Orlando FL, formerly of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 in Advent Health Orlando Hospital, Florida.
He was born February 26, 1943 in Rome, son of Louis and Josephine Trino Pettinelli. Donnie was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Design degree. While in college, he received an award for second place in the 1965 St. Regis Paper Co. national collegiate package design competition.
After graduating from college, Donnie was appointed station promotion artist with WJXT TV in Jacksonville FL. He later worked with WBTV of Charlotte NC in the 70’s before deciding he wanted to return to Florida. He began working for what is now the Ha-Lo Company, filling the promotional product needs of businesses and colleges throughout the country, including his alma mater, the University of Florida.
Donnie was our Santa Claus every Christmas Eve and our sunshine throughout the year, keeping everyone laughing all of the time.
Donnie is survived by his brother Anthony (Carol) Pettinelli; and nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings Patrick Pettinelli, Marie Veschusio, Delores Lyons, Louis Pettinelli, Eleanor Clements, and Carol Pettinelli, and his nephew Anthony Veschusio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 11am at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick Street, Rome. Calling hours will be from 10am – 11am prior to the mass. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
The family requests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo Street, Rome.
