November 22, 2021

Delores B. Vitale Nigro, 85, of Rome, NY passed away peacefully in the early morning on Monday, November 22, 2021. She went to rest with the Lord while her family was by her side.

She was born on November 8, 1936 in Rome, NY, daughter of the late Mario and Bianca (Giuliani) Vitale. Delores was married to her beloved and cherished husband, Rocco Nigro on January 11, 1958 at St. John the Baptist Church in Rome, NY. She graduated from Utica School of Beauty Culture in hairdressing and cosmetology and deeply enjoyed her work as a beautician. She later worked as a telephone operator at New York Telephone Company for many years and retired in 1980, with many lasting friendships and memories.

Despite Delores’s long battle with dementia, her cheerful and lively personality never drifted. Although Delores may have confused certain family members, she was always able to distinguish her true love, Rocco Nigro. The love they shared was extraordinary and truly beautiful.

Delores Nigro loved to dance, laugh, tell stories, and enjoyed time with her family and friends. She had a passion for cooking and baking and was well-known by many for her delicious dinners and desserts. Grandma Dee Dee’s vivacious spirit will always be cherished close to our hearts, as she consoles us through this heartbreaking time. We will always remember the laughter and love that she brought into our lives through her entertaining and compassionate personality. Her contagious smile will always be ingrained in our memory as we try to remember her the way she would want. She is deeply loved and missed by all.

Delores Nigro is survived by her long-loving husband, Rocco Nigro of 63 years. She is also survived by two cherished children: son, Rocco Nigro and daughter, Nancy Nigro. A sister; Norma Mecca. She also leaves behind five treasured grandchildren, their spouses and fiancés; John and Martha Rukavena, Matthew and Jillian Martingano, Marie (Missy) Nigro and fiancé Pasquale Cichello, Bianca Berg and fiancé James Pethel and Kathryn Saraceno and a great grandchild, Hannah Martingano.

Delores is predeceased by her daughter, Janet Berg. sisters; Gertrude Fiorini and Concetta Tarantino. A great grandson; Alexander Pethel.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours at Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W.
