Carmen Joseph Valvo

Carmen Joseph Valvo, age 85, of Rome passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2026. He was born on May 25, 1940 to Frank Valvo and Anna Mae (Panzica) Valvo. Carmen graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1958 and was Valedictorian of his class. He earned an undergraduate degree from Fordham University in 1964, and earned his Juris Doctorate from Albany Law School in 1968. In December of 1968, he was admitted to the U.S. Bar Association.   Carmen practiced law for over 40 years, the majority of those years being in private practice and then working as a public defender for Oneida County part-time prior to his retirement.

   Carmen will be remembered for his kindness, and more specifically the countless pro-bono cases he did within the community, his witty sense of humor, intelligence, ingenuity, contagious laugh, love for good food and wise guidance. 

   Carmen also enjoyed painting, and illustrated many wonderful works of art throughout his life. An avid bridge player and hobby inventor, Carmen spent much of his life playing with the same bridge group of lifelong friends who shared his passion for life and friendly competition. An eager learner with a passion for physics, Carmen could often be found working on his beloved invention, or talking to others about it.

   He is survived by his beloved wife, Marliyn (Lazzara) Valvo whom he had been married to for 50 years;  two daughters Kayla Rena and her husband Daniel Rena, Stacy Williams and her husband Stuart Williams, as well as three cherished grandchildren Colin Rena, Sophia Williams and Sagan Williams. 

   Services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the Bottini Funeral Home at 120 W. Embargo Street, Rome led by Fr. James Tormey.  Calling hours will be from 11:00am -1:00pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Shriners Children's Hospital.
