Augustine “Augie” Mariani, 87, of Rome passed away Friday, July 31, 2026 in the Rome Health Facility, following a brief illness.
Augie was born on October 13, 1938 in Rome, the son of Luigi and Mary Renzi Mariani. He attended Rome Schools. He owned and operated Mariani’s Fashion Carpets for many years and later entered the car business. He was blessed with the gift of gab and was successful in making friends and acquaintances very easily. Augie enjoyed walking for miles, long drives, going to the casino and horse racing-having owned race horses.
Augie is survived by his loving wife Donna of over 50 years; two daughters Mary Ann (John) Sudnick and Christine Mariani; a son Louis (Patricia) Mariani; two step-children Cherie (David) Ballantine and Robert (Leith) Covey; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister Josephine Maura as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Mark Mariani, his grandson Louis J. Mariani, sisters and brother-in-law Lucy (Gregory) Fiaschetti and Angela Aurrechio.
Services and burial will be private on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Augie will be laid to rest in St. John's Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo Street, Rome.

I am so sincerely sorry for your loss. Augie was my favorite customer, and I looked forward to his visits. He was a good soul, and he will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, especially Ms Donna (we've only ever spoken on the phone, but I know how much Augie loved and cared for you). The world is a lesser place for losing him.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I’ve known Augie for years and I remember that he was a very tough kid growing up. I was happy to be his friend and will surely miss him. Every once in a while, I would run into him when I took my wife to the salon near your house, and we would have a nice chat. May God sustain all of you during this difficult time.
