Anthony “Tony” Baker, 72, passed away in his home on Sunday morning, February 15, 2026 after a decade long battle with cancer. He was an iron man that put up an incredibly resilient fight and passed away peacefully without pain.
Tony was born on March 8, 1953 and graduated from RFA in 1971.
Everyone knew Tony. He either helped you with a project, repaired a home, installed a garage door or a pool in your back yard. His young grandson Orion once said “If Papa can’t fix it, we’re all screwed!” Tony most recently retired at Bucks and Bolts, and had previously worked at Vernon Downs. He was a member of the American Legion and the Lee Center Fire Volunteer Department.
Tony loved to travel and explore the west; he enjoyed woodworking and taking care of his land up in North Bay. Tony had a deep love for his grandchildren and loved being “Papa T” to Orion Shaler and Florence Yerman-Morris.
Tony leaves behind his wife Loretta Sbaraglia-Baker of 22 years; his stepsons Jeff Morris and Travis Shaler; his son Chad Richardson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Damon Richardson and twin brother Cliff Baker.
Special thanks to John Sbaraglia, his friends Joe Mathews, Fred Johnston, Randy Fox and the North Bay Volunteer Fire Department, as well as Hospice providers Chris, Anne, and Matt.
Prayer service will be held at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St., Rome on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at 6pm with Fr. James Tormey. Calling hours will be held at from 4-6pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice Palliative Care or the North Bay Fire Department in Tony’s memory.
