Josephine Grace Janes
Josephine Grace (Stanizzi) Janes, 82, of Rome, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, September 6, 2020 in Rome Memorial Hospital. She showed enormous strength and courage in her battle with cancer and will forever be remembered for her bravery and love of the Holy Spirit.
Josephine, known as “JoJo” to so many, was born in Rome on August 7, 1938 to Joseph and Mary Froio Stanizzi. She graduated from RFA in 1956 and was a life long member of St. John the Baptist Church. On June 11, 1960 she was united in marriage to Robert N. Janes, a blessed union of 6o years. She was employed at the former Carl’s Drug Store and the Rome Hospital Dietary department until her retirement after 20 years of service. She enjoyed her work immensely and was a bright light to all of the doctors, nurses and staff.
Josephine is survived by her beloved family, her husband Robert; five loving children, Robert (Sheryl) Janes of Lee Center, Mary Frankowski of Rochester, Lisa (Vince) Barrentine of Wimauma, Fl., Kevin Janes of Chattanooga, TN and Patrick (Amanda) Janes of Camillus; 12 cherished grandchildren, Neil, Garrett, Abigail, Evan, Elyse, Cole, Emma, Ethan, Phoenix, Brielle, Arianna and Catherine who were so precious to her; sisters, Theresa Mecca, Rosemary Fragapane, Jeannette (Alan) Trombley and Mary Lou (Ron) Symanski; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; In laws James and Angela Janes; a brother Anthony Stanizzi; sister and brother-in-law Carmella and Bernie Colangela; brother’s in-law, Joseph Mecca, Anthony Fragapane, James (Inga) Janes, William Janes, James Wogan and sister-in-law Patricia Plastas.
She worked hard her entire life with pride, strength and grace. She enjoyed shopping, reading, trips to the casino, making her famous wine cookies,and visits over coffee and liked to discuss politics. She was a great observer and listener who loved the simple things in life and she will be forever missed.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Rome Memorial Hospital especially the nursing staff on 2E as well as Dr. Seedat for his compassion and care over the years.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Thursday at 12 noon at St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Robert Kelly as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call on Thursday morning from 9-11 a.m. at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St. Masks and 6 foot distancing are required.
