Conchetta “Dolly” Flaver


Conchetta “Dolly” Flaver, 94, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 after a brief illness with her loving family by her side.

Dolly was born in Rome on November 26, 1925 to Gregory and Gesa Destito Amoroso. She married John Flaver on September 7, 1946 in St. John the Baptist Church, a blessed union of 64 years until John’s passing on December 18, 2010. She graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1943.

She retired from Griffiss Air Force Base as a clerk typist after 40 years of service. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Rome, a longtime volunteer with Friends of the Syracuse Symphony, a member of the Wednesday Morning Club and the Twigs.

Dolly was a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her beloved family, a son John A. Flaver and wife Lorraine of Syracuse and a daughter Barbara Amoroso and husband John of Rome; cherished grandchildren, John A. Flaver, Jr. and wife Franca of Staten Island, Celia Flaver of Syracuse and Shelly Donahue and husband Robert of Port Jervis; great grandchildren, Tyler and Sarah Donahue and Anthony and Francesca Flaver; sister-in-law Helen Spadafora ; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, mother-in-law Cecelia Flaver, sisters, Nancy (Charles) Lombino, Angeline (Philip) Sbaraglia, Gino and William Chiacaferro, Vincent Hoff, Alfred Spadafora; sisters-in-law, Pauline Parker and Theda Chiacaferro and nephews, Vincent Chiacaferro, Charles Lombino, Jr. and Richard Lombino.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Facility, 3 East, for the caring and compassionate way they cared for Dolly.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no services or calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at a latter date. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St., Rome, NY 13440.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dolly’s name to St. John the Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 210 E. Dominick St., Rome, NY 13440.
