Liberty M. Danti

Liberty M. Danti, 90, of Rome, passed away comfortably and peacefully, with her family by her side on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Abraham House in Rome,

She was born on October 5, 1929 on McEvoy Ave, Rome, the daughter of Paolino and Argia Marlia Fazzi. She was united in marriage to Renzo “Ray” Danti on October 23, 1954 in St. John the Baptist Church, and they shared a blessed union of 56 years until his passing on June 6, 2010.

Liberty was a Teacher’s Assistant in the Rome City School District for over 27 years and also worked summer school helping special needs children. She was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church. Her hobbies included canning tomatoes and peppers, as she could not wait for August to begin her yearly ritual. Her cellar became known as her Italian basement store, where her grandchildren raided her bountiful shelves whenever they came to visit.

She is survived by her beloved family, two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Raymond Smaldon, Mary Beth and Tom Smith and a son Raymond Danti all of Rome; seven cherished grandchildren, Jenna, Jonathan and Jared Smaldon, Ariana (Nathaniel) Meigs, Kayla Smith, McKenzie (Logan) Fournier and Cheyenne Smith; cousins, John and Natalie Roberts and Dual Giannechini; aunt Marisa Nizzi; niece Vivian (Bruce) Hancock; nephew Ron (Sharon) Koski and a special friend Lucy DeMatteo. She was predeceased by her parents; a brother Amerigo, who passed away when he was two years old, a sister and brother-in-law, Della and Apparizio Nizzi; niece Ann Marie Koski and special friends Mario and Maria Monterestelli and Delores Ernenwein.

Our family would like to express our gratitude to the entire staff at Upstate Medical Center. Also we are rendered speechless by the Hospice nurses, staff and caregivers at the Abraham House for the comfort, care and acts of kindness that were given not only to our mother but also to all of us during her time there. Our mom grew tired after living a very long, blessed and happy life, with no regrets and was ready to join our father, whom she said, must have been very lonely and asked God to take her.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at 1 p.m. at St. John The Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian burial with the Rev. Abe Esper as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday from 12-1 p.m. at the Church.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Liberty’s memory to the Abraham House of Rome, 417 N. Washington St. Rome, NY 13440 or the Make-a-Wish Central New York, 5005 Campuswood Drive, East Syracuse, NY 13057.
