Albert “Butch” Darcangelo


Albert “Butch” Darcangelo, 92, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home on November 17, 2019 with his loving family by his side.

He was born on March 7, 1927 in Rome, the son of Dominick and Inessa “Inez” Ceresoli Darcangelo. On October 15, 1955 in St. John the Baptist Church he married Josephine DeMatteo, a blessed union of 64 years. He attended Rome Schools. He worked at the Motor Vehicles Pool as a supervisor at GAFB, retiring in 1984.

Butch enjoyed gardening and playing the horses. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1945 to 1946, enlisting at the age of 16. He was a member of the Elks Club and the American Legion. He was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church.

Butch is survived by his beloved family, his wife Josephine and his children and their spouses; Shelly Darcangelo of Rome, Mary Jo and Jonathan Sears of Rome; Albert Darcangelo and John Moran of Portland, OR, Paul Darcangelo of Rome, Donald and Kristen Darcangelo of Rome, Dominick Darcangelo of Delray Beach, FL and David and Diana Darcangelo of Miami, FL, cherished grandchildren; Anthony and Stephanie Darcangelo, Nicholas Darcangelo, Gabriella and Brandon McKay, Olivia Darcangelo, Alexa Darcangelo, Evan Sears, Marc Darcangelo, Gabby Darcangelo, Don Darcangelo, David R. Darcangelo and Daniella Darcangelo; great-grandchildren, Sophia Corinn Darcangelo and twins Liam and Hunter McKay; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty” and Leonard Gratch of Rome; and beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his eldest son Anthony E. Darcangelo; sisters, Stella Coccagnia, Josephine Alberico and Helen Aquilo; brothers, Dominick Darcangelo, Lawrence Darcangelo and A. Rick D’Arcangelo.

The Darcangelo family would like to extend a special thank you to his sister-in-law Sandra Bovi, the 2nd and 3rd floor staff of Rome Memorial Hospital and Hospice Care for all of their support.

Funeral services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Abe Esper as celebrant. Private interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 7 at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
