Margaret F. (Peggy) Kolasz


Margaret F. (Peggy) Kolasz, 90, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2019 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was born on March 28, 1929, the sixth of twelve children of the late Aquilino and Veta (Tardbania) DeCarolis. She attended Rome Schools. On April 10, 1948, she married Stanley J. Kolasz in the old St. John the Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, the late Undersheriff Stanley J. Kolasz who passed away on May 2, 1977.

She was employed by the Rome Developmental Center for 20 years. She was a very devout Catholic and belonged to St. John the Baptist Church. She was involved with the local Oneida County Sheriffs Association and the Republican Party.

Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her beloved family, a daughter Sandra (Dr. Tom) Dale, of PA., a son Stanley J. Kolasz and devoted daughter-in-law Nancy Kolasz of Rome; a sister Antoinette Rossi of Rome, sister-in-law Delores DeCarolis of Rome, a brother Paul (Thuy) DeCarolis of FL., her cherished grandchildren, Magdalena E. Dale of NM., Aquilino W. Kolasz, Jr. of Rome, Mary Margaret (Michael) Schneck of PA., Danielle T. (Matthew) Lubecki of Rome, Theodore T. (Courtney)Dale of PA. and Tonya Trificana; ten great grandchildren, Matteo, Alexandria and Marcus Lubecki, Briana and Margaret Louise Schneck, Shay and Van Kolasz, Jacob, Lucas and Daniel Dale, and Michael Henderson.

She was predeceased by a beloved son Aquilino W. (Bill) Kolasz; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary and William Bogden, Giacamino and Penny DeCarolis, Matilda and James Carinci, Dominick and Anis DeCarolis, Louise Mirarchi, Andrew DeCarolis, Sr., Assunta (Sue) and Frank Buttacavoli, Servio (Cy) Rossi, Vincent DeCarolis and Beatrice Rushford Winterbottom.

Margaret had a passion for baking Italian cookies for family and friends besides preparing Polish and Italian cuisine. Her specialty was the Feast of the Seven Fishes traditionally prepared on Christmas Eve.

The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Alessi and staff for taking such excellent care of Margaret all these years. Also special thanks to Acacia Home Care and Hospice & Palliative Care.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 31st at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Abe Esper as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, 4 to 7 p.m. July 30th at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
