David A. Hilts

David A. Hilts, 67, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at home.

He was born on February 4, 1952 in Dolgeville, NY the son of William and Cecelia Lynch Hilts. On November 28, 1980 at St. John the Baptist Church he married Lucille Spado, a blessed union of 39 years. He was a graduate of Dolgeville Schools. He proudly served in the US Air Force from 1972 to 1980.

Dave was an Officer and member of the Galliano Club where he served as secretary, and a member of the Toccolana Club and the DAV. He was an avid Bocce player, known as the “Hit- Man”, and played in many tournaments. In June 2008, Dave was inducted into the Dolgeville Football Hall of Fame.

Dave is survived by his beloved family, his wife Lucille; step-daughter Carolyn (Tim) Smith of Syracuse; step-son William and (Kellie) Barnett of Seneca Falls; cherished grandchildren, Nicholas and Connor Smith, Evan, Madison and Owen Barnett; brothers, Frank, Bill and Tom Hilts. He was predeceased by his parents.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 29 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday from 1-2 p.m. at the Church prior to the Mass.
