Alfred “Pops” Magnanti


Alfred “Pops” Magnanti, 95, of Rome, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2019 in the Rome Memorial Hospital.

He was born on October 6, 1923 in Rome the son of Luigi and Elvira (Viti) Magnanti. On October 18, 1947 in St. John the Baptist Church he married Rose Carletta, a blessed union of 71 years. He attended Rome Schools. He retired as a laborer and material handler for the Mohawk Valley Cement Company.

Pops was a life-long member of the Toccolana Club where he could be found playing his favorite game, bocce and cards with other members. He also enjoyed watching the Yankee’s on TV and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a devote member of St. John the Baptist Church.

Pops is survived by his beloved family, his wife Rose; his daughters, Rosemary Magnanti and Margaret (Dennis) Demers; his sons, Alfred (Deborah) Magnanti and Stephen Magnanti; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Vittorello; a brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Virginia Magnanti; sisters-in-law, Antoinette Magnanti, Rita Magnanti; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by immediate members of his family, Peter and Marie Magnanti, Yolanda and Philip Gregory, Mary and Frances McGowen, August Magnanti, Anthony “Motors” Magnanti, Philip Magnanti and Albert Vittorello.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Thursday, April 11 at 2:30 p.m.in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the church on Thursday from 1:30-2:30 p.m. prior to the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Alfred’s memory to a charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
