John P. Gualandi
John P. Gualandi, 76, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in the VA Medical Center in Syracuse.
He was born in LaSalle, IL on September 9, 1941, a son of Maximum and Mary Ann Mifkowiec Gualandi. On August 25, 1962 in St. John the Baptist Church he married Marina E. LaGreco who passed away on August 23, 2016. He was a graduate of a high school in Illinois. He proudly served with the US Air Force during the Vietnam Era.
He had worked as a mason with many construction companies. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed horse racing and going to the casino. He coached for many years at the Rome National Little League field. He was a mentor to the youth of South Rome. He was a volunteer and coordinated and participated in many projects at the Rome Cable Field so baseball could be played even in the worst of weather. He was well respected in the Rome Community and will be truly missed. An extremely modest man who never wanted any credit for all that he did; he would always say ”I was not the only one”.
John is survived by his beloved family, three sons and a daughter-in-law, John A. Gualandi, Jeff P. and Pam Gualandi and Joel S. Gualandi all of Rome; cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey Jr., Anthony, Antonio, Justina, Joel Jr. and Janelle “GiGi”; a sister Diana Gualandi; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry and Annette Gualandi and Mike and Bonny Gualandi; and inlaws, Josephine and Dennis Surace of Rome.
There will be no calling hours as per John’s wishes. Funeral services will be private.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 10th from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Rome Polish Home.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
