Thomas Edward Sherman

Thomas Edward Sherman, 78, of Lee Center, passed away at home on Monday, April 16, 2018 after a long illness.

He was born on March 8, 1940 in McKeever, NY, the son of Elmer G and Mariam A. Bolich Sherman. On April 18, 1964 in Whitestown he married Victoria L. Dianna. She passed away on November 13, 2008.

Tom attended Holland Patent Schools. He proudly served with the US Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1963. After leaving the military he returned home to work at many mills in Rome and retired from Revere Copper and Brass in 1986. In 2002 he retired from the Rome City School District. He was a HAM Radio operator and enjoyed his time attending to his bees as well as his daily visits with the guys at his brother-in-law Butch Gaetano’s Garage.

Tom is survived by a sister, Burdell Richie of Westernville; three sisters-in-law, Lee Sherman of Apple Valley CA, Louise Carletta of Rome and Barbara “Bobbie” Gaetano of Wellesley Island; a brother-in-law, Angelo “Butch” Gaetano of Rome; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, a brother Arthur Sherman and two brothers-in-law, Dick Richie and Angelo Carletta.

Tom’s family would like to thank Dr. Butala and his staff for their wonderful care and compassion.

In keeping with Tom’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at the family’s convenience.

In lieu of flowers; contributions in Tom’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Rome Humane Society, 6247 Lampher Road, Rome, NY 13440.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
