Angelo Carletta
Angelo Carletta, 85, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in St. Luke’s Hospital with his loving family by his side.
He was born on November 20, 1931 in Rome a son of Rosario and Josephine Alu Carletta. On October 12, 1957 in St. Anthony’s Church in Utica he married Louise Dianna, a blessed union of 60 years. He attended Rome Schools and graduated from the Rome Trade School in 1950.
He proudly served in the US Army in the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper and was honorable discharged in 1954.
Angelo worked for many years as a mason and belonged to Local #2 Mason’s Union retiring in 1995. He worked most of his years for the BS McCarey Construction Co. of Rome. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.
He made a legacy with his love of building with brick and stone. He was known as a strong man with a great work ethic. He worked countless hours with his son, nephews and many special men. Many buildings remain as a testament to his love of hard work and the rewarding results.
Angelo is survived by his beloved family, his wife Louise; two daughters, Laura L. Carletta (Ken) of SC, Desiree A. Carletta (Jeff) of Utica; a son, Angelo Carletta II (Tania) of Rome; one special cherished grandson, Angelo Joseph Carletta of Rome. His proudest moments was the naming of his grandson after him; sisters-in-law, Arlene Emma, Olympia Carletta and Barbara Gaetano; brothers-in-law, Angelo Gaetano and Thomas Sherman; several nieces and nephews who adored him. He was predeceased by seven brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 9:30 in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the Church from 8:00 to 9:30 prior to the Mass.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
