Sara Ann Lanzafame


Sara Ann Lanzafame, of Rome, passed away at home on Saturday, July 22, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born on January 12, 1926 in Conway. PA. and was the daughter of Jack and Marie Scallino Aiello.

Sara is survived by her beloved family, a son and daughter-in-law, Samuel and Janet Lanzafame of Chittenango; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Doug Colbeth of Scottsdale, AZ; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Sara was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Rome and St. Agatha Church in Canastota. During her entire life, she remained devoted to the Blessed Mother of Our Lord. She was a tireless volunteer in her parish, unselfishly ministering to the sick and elderly. Sara began her long career in the grocery industry in 1941. Throughout the many years she was employed at A&P, P&C, and Price Chopper. She finally retired from the store in June 2017 at the age of 91.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 in St. John the Baptist Church, Rome, for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Philip Hearn as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 12:00 to 1:00 at the Church prior to the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, Sara has asked that contributions be made in her memory to a charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the Church.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St. Rome.
