Elizabeth “Betty” Marchesino Bovi
Elizabeth “Betty” Marchesino Bovi, 100, of Rome, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 in Ithaca with her loving family by her side.
She was born on August 10, 1916 in Ramapo, NY a daughter of John A. and Marie “Mamie” Guida Marchesino. On June 26, 1941 in St. John the Baptist Church she married John “Bull” Bovi. John passed away on April 6, 1994.
Betty enjoyed cooking for her family, crocheting and knitting. She also enjoyed gambling of all sorts; playing cards, betting on horseracing (her son John owned, trained and drove harness race horses) and going to the casino. She loved the NY Yankees, whom she referred to as,
“her boys”. Betty also enjoyed singing, dancing and music, especially Frank Sinatra and Jimmy Roselli.
Betty’s family and friends were very important to her and they always had great times together. She believed in opening her heart and home to everyone. Her greatest gifts were her unselfish ways and her love to others.
Betty is survived by her beloved family: a son Michael Bovi and Denise Duve’ of Ithaca; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Bovi; her cherished grandchildren and their spouses: Dawn (John) Wittenmyer, Christopher (Kelly) Bovi, Kevin (Kelly) Bovi, Nancy (Michael) Helms, Sara (Chad) Hollander, Jennifer (Gary) Corby and Jillian Bovi; and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son John F. Bovi; a daughter-in-law, Marilynn Spinelli Bovi; her sisters: Theresa “Tessie” Calnero, Josephine Taglieri, Evelyn Pianella and Florence Gigliotti; and a brother, Louis Marchesino.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 25th at 12 noon in St. John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Private interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, April 25th from 11:00 to 12:00 at the Church.
