John P. Catalano
John P. Catalano, 87, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in the Rome Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side.
He was born on December 31, 1929 in Endicott the son of Gaspare “Jasper” and Vincenza “Jenny” Randesi Catalano. On May 17, 1950 in St. John the Baptist Church he married Dolores Mezza, a blessed union of 65 years until her death on December 16, 2015.
He was a graduate of RFA and proudly served with the US Navy. He retired after working for many years as a supply manager for GAFB. He also worked for many years in interior decorating and also for many funeral homes. Johnny was well known as a pool player being one of the better players in the city. He also enjoyed horse racing, old classic movies on TV, cooking and baking and spending time with his family.
John is survived by his beloved family, a daughter Valerie L. Premo of Rome; two sons, John V Catalano (Terri Cough) of Baldwinsville and Jeffrey B. Catalano of Rome; cherished grandchildren and their spouses, Steven R. and April S. Premo, Jonnie J. and Peggy A. Premo, John H. Catalano, Joelle B. and Chris Campbell and Jarett J. Catalano; great-grandchildren, Ayrial, Carson, Steven, Olivia, Mariah, Tyler, Kolby, Nova and Austin; special friends James DeSalvo and Luigi Bottini and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marie George and Beatrice Tripoli and a brother Vito M. Catalano.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday evening at 5:00 in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the Church on Friday evening from 4 to 5 prior to the Mass.
