James D. Catalano


James D. Catalano, 69, of Rome and Massena, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2016 in St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse with his loving family by his side.

He was born on May 12, 1947 in Rome a son of Rosario and Marye DiRuzzo Catalano. He graduated from RFA, class of 1965 and SUNY Canton. He proudly served with the US Navy. He retired as a supervisor of ALCO in Massena.

James was an avid fisherman, had a Hobby Farm in Chase Mills, NY. and loved and raised Labrador Retrievers in his lifetime. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the ZAP Fraternity at Canton. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Rome and St. John's Church in Madrid, NY.

He is survived by his beloved family, a daughter Michelle Catalano of Florida, a son Russ Catalano of Massena; three cherished grandchildren, Jaycee, Joplin and Dacks Catalano; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Dominick and Colleen Catalano of Kent, Ohio; a brother-in-law Alex Mandronico of Harleysville, PA. and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Rosalie Mandronico.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Monday morning at 11:00 in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Joseph Sestito as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call on Monday morning from 9 to 10:30 at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in James's memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
