Frank A. Polera Sr


Frank A. Polera Sr., or Papa as the grandchildren lovingly referred to him, 88, of Rome, passed away unexpectedly on Monday March 14, 2016 in St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse with his loving family by his side.

He was born on December 12, 1927 in Utica a son of Thomas and Frances Pelligrino Polera. On November 25, 1950 in St. Peter's Church he married "the love of his life" Beverly Jane Bove, a blessed union of 52 years. Beverly passed away on January 15, 2002.

Frank was a graduate of Proctor High School in Utica. He had worked for a time at his wife Beverly's father's Circle Restaurant. He was retired as a Rigger at Griffiss Air Force Base. He was a proud veteran of the US Marine Corp. Frank enjoyed playing bocce with his fellow members of the Toccolana Club as well as bowling and going to the Casino. He loved FACEBOOK and spent countless hours communicating with family and friends. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather as well as a friend to all.

Frank is survived by his devoted family, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas and Kathleen Polera of Northville, Michigan and Frank Polera of Fayetteville; cherished grandchildren and their spouses, Katelyn and Scott Miller, Meghan Beverly and Trevor Zinn all of Denver, Colorado, Nicholas Polera of New York City and Christopher Polera of Fayetteville; a brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Mary Polera of Utica; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bernie and Peggy Bove of Liverpool; sister-in-law, Frances Bove of Bentonville, Arkansas and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Potenza and Angeline Gerace and two brothers, John Polera and Richard Polera.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Monday morning at 10:00 at St. John the Baptist Church, Rome, New York for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St. Rome, New York.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Frank's memory may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
