Antonio "Tony" Pettinelli


Antonio "Tony" Pettinelli, 93, of Rome, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 in the Bethany Gardens.

He was born on November 10, 1922 in Tocco Casauria, Abbruzzi Italy, the son of Giovanni and Anna DiGiantomasso Pettinelli. On August 25, 1951 in Ontario, Canada, he married Jennie Aiello, a blessed marriage of 63 years until her death on January 8, 2014.

He owned and operated Tony's Ornamental Iron Works until his retirement in 1986. He was an avid bowler, golfer and bocce player. He was an active member of St. John the Baptist Church and the Toccolana Club and was the last surviving member born in Tocco Casauria, Italy.

Tony is survived by his beloved family, two daughters and sons-in-law, Toni Ann and James Olejarczyk and Rene and David Cutler, three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Barbara Pettinelli and Anthony John and Cynthia Pettinelli all of Rome and Robert and Candace Pettinelli of Vermont; fourteen cherished grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five sisters, Alba Passacando, Anna Senese, Mary Comforti, Antoinette DiNicola and Katherine Bilboa and a brother Dominick Pettinelli.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Bethany Gardens for their excellent care and compassion.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 12 to 1 at the Church prior to the Mass.

In lieu of flowers please make contributions to St. John the Baptist Church Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the Church.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
