Jennie B. Summa


Jennie B. Summa, 93, of Rome, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016 in Rome Memorial Hospital.

She was born on July 19, 1922 in Rome the daughter of Michele and Domenica Surrace Bovi. On January 4, 1942 in St. John the Baptist Church she married Joseph D. Summa who passed away July 7, 1992 after a blessed union of 50 years. She graduated in 1941 from Rome Free Academy.

Jennie was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church, a member of the Delta Omega Society and started the concession stand for the Rome American Little League. She was known for her wonderful baked goods, loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; going to their sporting events and taking trips to the Turning Stone Casino. She also loved her travels to Puerto Rico and Las Vegas with her husband and friends.

Jennie is survived by her beloved family, two daughters and sons-in-law, Grace and Frank DelSignore of Clifton Park, and Jo-Ann and Paul Pearl of Ocean Springs, MS; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dominick and Patricia Summa of Greenville, SC. and Peter J. and Barbara (friend, confident and caregiver) Summa of Rome, cherished grandchildren, Kimberly Dandino and fiancée Doug, Frank (Ashley) DelSignore, Jennifer (Damian) Redman, Michael (Jill) Summa, Libby Pearl, Peter Summa and fiancée Jill and Joseph (Erin) Summa; nine great-grandchildren, James, Meghan, Blake, Luke, Olivia, Bailyn, P.J., Josie and Dominick; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Betty) Bovi; several special nieces and nephews and a special friend, Louise Ceravolo, whom people thought was Jennie's sister. She was predeceased by sisters, Mary Storace and Josephine Tonazzi and brothers, Anthony Conde, John Bovi and Amerigo (Sparkey) Bovi.

Funeral services will be held in the spring with calling hours and a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as the celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
