Anthony "Tony" Bove


Anthony "Tony" Bove, formerly of Rome, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 4, 2016 at the Madison House in Madison, CT. with his family by his side.

He was the beloved husband of Helen DiMarco Bove who passed away on September 7, 1989, loving father of Alberta (Glenn) Murdock of Branford, CT. and Madeline (Richard) Pietruszka of East Haven, CT; brother of Theresa (Albert) Quattro of Merritt Island, FL and the late Madeline (Anthony) LoParco; grandfather of

Ronald ( Kristina )Miers II, Melissa (Fredy) Yumbla, Allison (Geoff) Calabrese and Daniel Murdock; great-grandfather of Anthony and Nicholas Miers, Sofia and Gisele Yumbla, Andrew, Hudson, Madison, and Graham Calabrese. He was predeceased by several close brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Anthony was born in Rome on December 21, 1921 to the late Albert and Rose Serra Bove. He was a graduate of Proctor High School, Utica in 1941. He proudly served in the 78th Infantry Division of the US Army during WW II where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and also played in the Army Band. When Glenn Miller went missing in 1944, the Army Band Anthony was a member of, took over Miller's Band. Following his service, he worked in a variety of family business ventures including restaurants, a bowling alley, billiard hall and Bove's News and variety store. He retired from the government at Griffiss Air Force Base after 25 years in the accounting department and also worked as a hairdresser during that time.

Anthony had a passion for music, especially playing his clarinet; he also enjoyed playing golf and wine making, but his greatest love was his family. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, DAV, Rome Civic Band and St. John the Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Saturday, January 23, at 12 noon at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St. with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, January 23 from 10 to 12 p.m. prior to the service.

Military Honors will be made at the funeral home.
