M.Sgt. (Ret) Miles A Thompson


M.Sgt. (Ret) Miles A Thompson,74, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Rome Memorial Hospital after a brief illness, surround by his loving family.

Miles was retired from the US Air Force after a 22 year career, and retired again as the manager of the Griffiss Auto Hobby Shop. During his life he loved racing cars, scrapping and watching his grandchildren play baseball.

Miles is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sharron (Brown) Thompson; his beloved children, Pamela (Bill) Miller of West Lebanon, IN, Miles (Brandi) Thompson II of Linton IN, Michael (Amy) Thompson, and Mark (JoAnn) Thompson, Rome NY; seven cherished grandchildren, Ryan (Ashley) Thompson Dover, DE, Donnie (Kristin) Miller of Lafayette, IN, Bradley (Kayla) Miller, Sullivan, IN, Brandon Thompson, Linton, IN, Elizabeth Thompson and Kyle Thompson, Rome, NY, Jenny Palmer, Rome, NY, Tallen Heffner Linton, IN; seven great- grandchildren, Avalon Holmes, Dover DE, Madi and Cooper Miller, Sullivan IN, Kinley, Kerrigan and Raylan Miller of Lafayette IN and Logan Palmer, Rome NY; two sisters Sue (David) Witmer, Sterling IL, Annette Martin, Mililani Hawaii; two brothers, Tim Thompson, Linton IN and John Martin Rockford IL; a sister in law, Cheryl (Ed) Robertson, Linton IN and a brother in law, Robert (Liz) Brown, San Diego CA. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Glenn Thompson and Mary Ellen Martin, first wife, Dixie Thompson, and two sons, Terry and Robert Glenn Thompson.

A very special thank you to the ICU Staff of Rome Memorial Hospital for the excellent job of caring for our beloved husband and father.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St., Rome NY, with Pastor Susan Walters of Delta United Methodist Church officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 - 5:00 pm prior to the service.. Interment will be in the spring in Lyons Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Miles's name to the Tappet Twirlers Scholarship fund.
