Edward A. DeMatteo


Edward A. DeMatteo, 84, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home, on December 15, 2015 with his loving family by his side.

He was born on October 5, 1931 in Rome, a son of Anthony and Valentina Filippini DeMatteo. On October 1, 1962, he married Mary Alice Bruce, a blessed union of 53 years. He attended RFA and proudly served in the US Air Force from 1950 to 1954 and served in Germany.

Eddie built, along with his brothers, Elmcrest Golf Course on Airport Road, and then owned and operated Edward's Steak House, the Flame Restaurant and on December 7, 1979 he opened DeMatteo's Restaurant on E. Dominick St. which is currently being operated by his son Anthony. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed the horses and best of all, meeting daily with the gang at DeMatteo's. Eddie was a County Legislator from 1992 through 1995.

Edward is survived by his beloved family, his wife Mary Alice, a daughter Diana DeMatteo of NJ; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony E. and Trudy DeMatteo of Rome; his cherished grandchildren, Cristina and Anthony DeMatteo; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Josephine and Albert Darcangelo and Sandra Bovi; a brother and sister-in-law, Louis P. and Jacqueline DeMatteo; a sister-in-law, Lucy DeMatteo all of Rome; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother Joseph DeMatteo.

Eddie will be sorely missed by his many friends at DeMatteo's.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday evening at 5:00 in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant.

Relatives and friends may greet the family on Friday from 4 to 5 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church prior to the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Edward's memory to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. or the Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens Center. Envelopes will be available at the Church.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
