Joseph F. Iodice
Joseph F. Iodice, 98, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015 in the Rome Memorial Hospital.
He was born on March 8, 1917 in Rome the son of Gaetano and Lauretta Pace Iodice. On July 4, 1940 he married Theresa Serrani who passed away on February 8, 1966. On January 19, 1974 he married Gertrude DeSantis Kinison who passed away on December 7, 2002. He was a graduate of RFA.
Joe was the owner of G. Iodice and Sons Grocery Store where he made his famous sausage and loved serving the Rome community. He was also an avid golfer who enjoyed taking trips to Florida with his friends. He will forever hold a place at the round table at DeMatteo's Restaurant sharing many laughs and memories. He will be deeply loved, missed, and cherished by his family and all that loved him. His legend will live on.
Joe is survived by his beloved family, a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Elizsabeth (Betty) Iodice of Rome; two daughters, Donna Schebel of Charlotte, NC and Nancy Kolasz of Rome; a step-daughter Sarah Kinison with whom he lived; five grandchildren, Mark (Robin) Iodice, Rondi (Thomas) Sims, Tonya Trificana, Joseph (Jennifer) Schebel and Danielle (Matthew) Lubecki; nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, a sister Jennie Calicchia Boczulak, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and his special friend Peter Gallicchio. He was predeceased by a daughter Diane Iodice, a brother Arthur A. Iodice, sisters and brothers-in law, Josephine and Harry Esposito, Fanny and Amelio (Miller) DeGrazio, Louise and Victor Gigli, and Mary and Henry Nicolella.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 11:00 in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant.. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 at the Church.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations made be made in Joe's memory to Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York City or to St. John the Baptist Church Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the Church.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral home, 120 W. Embargo St.
