Henry M. Coia
Henry (Hank) M. Coia, 85, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 21, 2015 with his loving family by his side.
He was born on August 5, 1930 in Rome, a son of Libero V. And Carla Cordara Coia. On June 11, 1955 in St. John the Baptist Church he married Dolores Saurini. They celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary just days before she passed away on June 16, 2014.
Henry proudly served with the US Marine Corp from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean conflict aboard the USS Manchester. He then worked as a Mechanical Technician at GAFB. Hank was well known as "The Peanut Man" for his vending of roasted peanuts at the State Fair and many County Fairs as well as community events in Rome.
He was a lifelong member of the Rome Elks BPOE, VFW and the Marine Corp League, Edward L. Smith Detachment.
Hank loved cooking for his family, westerns, playing cards, family reunions, bocce, the Turning Stone, Vegas and telling stories. When his boys were young, he enjoyed taking them camping and fishing at Fourth Lake every summer. He was also the Cub Master for the John Joy Pack for many years. For over five decades Hank could be found in the stands, cheering on his children and then his grandchildren at their year round sporting events.
Henry is survived by his beloved family, two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Sherri Coia of Rome and Henry and Kristin Coia of Manhattan Beach, CA.; cherished grandchildren, Christopher (Syracuse), Kyle and Brianna (Rome), Henry and Katherine Coia (CA) and many
nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, a son Keith Coia (May 2015); three sisters, Josephine Fiaschetti, Ida Giambona and Carla Grifasi and a brother Vincent (Jimmie) Coia.
Memorial services will be held at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St. at a date and time to be announced. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
