Donald H. White


Donald H. White, 81, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2015 in Rome Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side.

He was born on June 8, 1934 in Rome the son of Clarence T. White and Harriette B. Reed On July 19, 1969 he married Jeanne Lonsinger, a blessed union of 46 years. He attended Rome Schools. He proudly served in the US Marine Corp from 1953 to 1957 and re-enlisted in 1961. In 1967 he was discharged as a Sgt. and received the Vietnam Service Medal.

Don was a crane operator for Pettibone Corp. and later worked in various jobs at GAFB from where he retired in 1995.

He was a lifelong member of the Stanwix Veterans Men's Club and VFW. He was also a member of the American Legion and Marine Corp League, Edward L. Smith Detachment.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing crossword puzzles. He was also an avid shuffleboard, pool and card player. Don enjoyed taking bus trips with his wife to the Finger Lakes Race Track.

Donald is survived by his beloved family, his wife Jeanne, two daughters and sons-in-law, Tiffany J. and Brian E. DeFraine of Taberg and Tammy J. and Scott B. Brement of Rome; cherished grandchildren, Rebecca E. DeFraine, Rachael E. DeFraine and Christopher L. Brement; two nieces Bonnie Neilson and Connie Underwood and a nephew David White. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Thomas White and David J. White and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wally F. and Betty L. Lonsinger.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Robert Feeney, as well as the staff of 2N, ICU and ER of Rome Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services will be held Thursday evening at 5:30 at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St. with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. prior to the service.
