Melissa S. Stevens

Melissa S. Stevens, 41, of Blossvale, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2015 in Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, with her loving friends and family by her side.

She was born on August 6, 1973 in Rome, a daughter of Joseph and Cheryl Virgili Stevens. She was a graduate of Camden Central High School, class of 1991 and then attended MVCC. She was a member of the Crossroads Ministries, Westdale.

Melissa is survived by her beloved family, her adoring parents Joseph and Cheryl Stevens; two sisters and brothers-in-law, April and Ed Pforts, of Iowa and Jennifer and Shane Riolo of Rome; a brother Joseph Stevens III and his fiancé' Katie McNamara of Rome; special niece and nephew, Goddaughter Lily and Noah Riolo and nephew Dale Taylor; and special life-long friends, Kelly Fox and Ron Engle and Grace Engle.

Melissa loved her life and loved everyone in it. Melissa had a genuine warm smile that she took everywhere she went. She wore that bright smile despite Her poor health condition and proved to be an inspiration for all. Melissa is the definition of a true fighter and she fought her whole life in dealing with her heart condition. Through all of her trials and tribulations, Melissa would smile and say "it is what it is". Melissa had many friends and touched everyone that she met. She will be deeply missed by all and leaves a sense of hope in all that knew her. Her faith was strong and helped her to live a wonderful, happy and peaceful life. Melissa always said that God had a special heart waiting for her, little did she know that it was his. The family would like to thank Crouse Hospital ICU, 4N, and a special thanks to Lynne Shapiro and Dr. Boahene.

There will be no calling hours.

There will be a celebration of Melissa's life at a later date.

Contributions may be made to the family to help with expenses.
