Amelia Marion Ritz
Amelia Marion Ritz, 94, of Rome, passed away on Friday, May 8 2015 with her loving family by her side.
She was born on September 16, 1920 in Rome a daughter of Nicholas and Edvige Panara Campanaro. She was united in marriage on June 8, 1941 to John "Skippy" Ritz and had a blessed union of 61 years. John passed away on July 20, 2002. Amelia was a graduate of Rome Free Academy. She was employed as a secretary in the Civil Engineering Department at Griffiss Air Force Base.
Amy and Skippy enjoyed spending their winters in Miami Beach Florida at the Heathwood Motel which was owned by her brother Peter Campanaro. She loved spending time with her family and socializing with people. Amy was a member of the Marian Guild of St. John the Baptist Church and traveled to various Shrines with her husband and fellow parishioners. In her pastime Amelia enjoyed knitting, playing cards, bingo, listening to Frank Sinatra music and attending Mass until the very end of her life.
Amelia is survived by her beloved family, a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Jerry Burlison of Rome and Boynton Beach, FL; a daughter-in-law, Karen Ritz of Naples, FL; cherished grandchildren, Jerry Burlison, Kelly Burlison, Jodi Gualtieri and Stacy Ritz; great grandsons, Pasquale and Giovanni Gualtieri; a brother Peter Campanaro, a sister-in-law Theresa Mutillo; nieces and nephews, James and Donna Smaldon, Paul and Michelle Jensen and Rowe and Cindi Wheeler. She also leaves several special great nieces, great nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son John and her sister and brother-in-law Dolly and Michael Smaldon.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Fr. Paul F. Angelicchio. Fr. Robert Kelly and Fr. James Tormey for their special thoughts and prayers for Amelia.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday morning at 11:00 at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
Memorial services will be celebrated on Friday evening, June 12th at 7:00 in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant, where relatives and friends are invited to attend.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made in Amelia's memory to St. John the Baptist Church Memorial Fund or St. Paul's Church Memorial Fund.
