Peter Calandra Jr.
Peter Calandra Jr., 72, of Rome, passed away at home on Saturday February 27, 2016 with his loving family by his side.
He was born on July 22, 1943 in Rome a son of Peter and Grace Sgambellone Calandra. His first marriage to Jeanne Keeler on May 21, 1964 blessed him with two sons and a daughter while his second marriage to Lorraine McCormick on July 26, 1986 blessed him with another son.
He graduated from RFA in 1961and attended MVCC. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.
His employment history included working in the lab at Revere Copper and Brass, managing a Victory Markets grocery store and welding for several years at Pettibone Corp. He then worked for 25 years for AmeriCU Credit Union as a purchasing agent.
Pete enjoyed riding and tinkering on all kinds of vehicles, from boats and snowmobiles to motorcycles and cars/trucks. He was always interested in motor vehicles, especially vintage cars and Corvettes. He coached Pard's women's softball team in the 1980's and enjoyed road trips, traveling to many locations for his children's hockey, soccer or ball games. More than anything, he loved being with family and friends.
Pete is survived by his beloved family, his wife Lorraine McCormick, three sons, Peter J Calandra (and Denise Egercic) of Aliquippa, PA, Patrick and Jennifer (LaPointe) Calandra and Jason Calandra (and Amy Trousdale) of Rome; one daughter and son-in-law Wendy and Joseph Hauk of Rome; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Josephine "Tootsie" (Rossi) Calandra of Rome and David and Donna (Jenks) Calandra of Holland Patent; one sister and brother-in-law, Teena and William Rossi of Cape Coral, FL.; five cherished grandchildren, Eric and Jeanna Hauk, Peter and Nicolas Calandra and Peyton Calandra along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Goel and staff, the compassionate people from Visiting Nurses Assn., Hospice and friends and relatives that cared for him.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 11:00 at St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Entombment will be in the Padre Pio Columbarium.
Relatives and friends may call on Saturday morning from 9 to 11 at the Church prior to the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Pete's memory to Hospice and Palliative Care. Envelopes will be available at the Church.
